Seal – Positive Musical Force
“We’re never gonna survive, unless we get a little crazy”
For more then two decades, Seal has been a musical force with a stunning, distinctive voice and uncomparable spirit. He has earned three Grammy Awards, sold over 15 million albums worldwide and is now preparing to release his seventh studio album, “Commitment”, in September.
This London born son of Nigerian and Brazilian parents grew up singing in local clubs, toured Japan in the 1980’s with Push, a British funk band, joined a blues band in Thailand and travelled throughout India. Back in the UK, Seal attracted worldwide success with his 1990 No.1 hit “Killer”. A record deal with Warner Bros’ and debut album soon followed, including the 1991 U.S. Top Ten single “Crazy”. His emotional, romantic love songs, such as “Prayer For the Dying,” the Grammy Award-winning “Kiss From A Rose,” and “Don’t Cry” (all from 1994’s Seal II), and “Love’s Divine” (from 2003’s Seal IV), delighted fans and earned him critical acclaim. In 2001, Seal collaborated with longtime friend and spiritual teacher Guru Singh on the album, ‘The Game of Chants”, and their song “I Am Who I Am”, a powerful testament to the spirituality of being human, was born.
Seal and his wife Heidi Klume have supported Musicians on Call, bringing music to patients to complement the healing process, as well as the Foundation For Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa. His spiritual nature shines best through his lyrics, and the open heart and mind they reflect.
“For a modern day mantra and beautiful collaboration between a global music icon and incredibly inspiring yogi/devotional singer, ‘I Am’ is one of my personal favorites. Without being preachy, or the least bit esoteric, the song and performance capture the essence of self-awareness and social consciousness in heartwarming and inspiring musical expression. My admiration, respect and gratitude go out to both Seal and Guru Singh for this song and their amazing and soulful musical contributions that continue to touch me and the hearts of millions.” – Frank Fitzpatrick
